Eau Claire’s boys basketball team defeated Newberry 65-58 on Monday to win the Little Caesers Christmas Classic championship.
Balanced production was the key for the Shamrock (7-2). Ronnie Green was the nominal leader with 15 points, but he had plenty of aid from Marquis Lykes (14), A.J. Caldwell (12) and Marquis Jones (12).
Lykes was named the tournament MVP, while Green earn a spot on the all-tournament team.
EC opened the tourney on Saturday with a 57-43 win over Fairfield Central. The Shamrocks and their former region rivals were deadlock entering the fourth quarter before Eau Claire went on a decisive 25-11 run over the final eight minutes.
Adolph Caldwell was the top gun vs. FC, scoring 17 points. Green tallied 13 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out five assists and came up with two steals. Jones and Dontell Riley dominated the glass. Jones finished with 17 rebounds – eight at the offensive end – and scored four points. Riley had 12 rebounds and four points.
The Shamrocks are riding a six-game winning streak.
