Dreher pulled off a major upset on Friday, scoring a 49-46 win at Airport. It was the first loss of the season for the host Eagles, and allowed idle Lower Richland to take sole possession of first place in Region 5-3A girls basketball.
Kaydra Duckett set the tone for the Blue Devils with a 23-point performance. Jazmine Robinson provided solid support with 12 points. The win elevates Dreher into the region championship equation. The Devils now share third place for A.C. Flora at 2-1 behind 3-0 Lower Richand.
Airport (10-1, 3-1) was led by Taylor Vinson (16 points), Jessica Ellison (15) and Maya McCray (11).
Flora beat Midland Valley 43-36 behind Lexis Jacobs who scored a game high 15 points. The Falcons moved up to 11-4 overall, 2-1 in region games.
Chapin rolled over host Brookland-Cayce 59-35 for its first region success of the season. Ambria Kibler and Savannah Frick accounted for all but 15 of the Eagles’ points. Kibler rang up a game high 25 points, while Frick tallied 19. Chapin is now 7-6 overall, 1-3 in region matters.
On Tuesday, Flora plays at Lower Richland, Dreher travels to Chapin and Brookland-Cayce host Midland Valley.
Camden fizzled in the second half of its Region 6-3A opener against Crestwood. The Bulldogs jumped to a 6-0 lead and had a 21-18 edge at halftime, but ended up on the short end of a 42-28 score. Camden managed just seven points over the final 16 minutes of play, scoring just two in the fourth quarter.
The Bulldogs host Hartsville on Tuesday.
