Richland Northeast moved a tie for first place in Region 4-4A boy basketball on Friday thanks to a 59-44 road win at Dutch Fork. The verdict allowed the Cavaliers to pull even with idle Irmo at 4-0 atop the region standings.
RNE and Irmo were scheduled to clash on Jan. 11, but the snow and ice storm that hit the Midlands on Monday forced that game to be cancelled. The new date is Feb. 9, just eight days after the team are slated to clash in the second half of the region season on Feb. 1.
Travis Hammonds, Ryan Quarles and Quinn Martin did the heavy lifting for the Cavaliers. Hammonds poured in a game high 21 points, Quarles contributed 14 and Martin scored 11.
Eric Bethel tallied 15 for the Silver Foxes, who fell to 5-11, 2-2.
In other 4-4A outings, Blythewood nipped Spring Valley 53-52, while Ridge View erupted offensively in a 117-68 romp over Lugoff-Elgin.
Blythewood (6-9, 1-3) picked up its first conference win and ended a six-game losing streak thanks to solid efforts by Demar Hall (18 points) and Avery Johnson (12). Christopher Acox scored 13 points for the Vikings (7-8, 2-2).
Ridge View (10-5, 2-3) had six players finish with double-digit totals - Cameron Lee (22 points), Jared Johnson (20), Marion Jenkins (16), Seth Coleman (14), Jamaal Brantley (13) and Chris Maple (10) all joined in the fun.
However, all of those totals paled in comparison to the 40 points Jojo Pellegrino put on the board for the Demons (3-11, 0-5).
