The Tuesday Night Split was in force on SCISA Region 1-3A basketball scene last night.
At Cardinal Newman, the Cardinal boys whipped Augusta Christian 83-49 in the nightcap after the visiting Lions escaped with a 43-41 in the girls game.
The CN boys (17-2, 2-0) received double-figure production from Austin Ajukwa (23 points), Colburn Gatling (19), Dalton Halfacre (14) and Timmy Cunningham (12). Molly Rainwater and Alex August shared scoring honors for the Cardinals girls (10-6, 1-1) with eight points apiece.
At Ben Lippen, the Falcons boys salvaged a split with a 57-48 over Hammond after the visiting Skyhawks prevailed 42-35 in the girls game.

Drew Fraley led Ben Lippen (6-12, 1-2) to its first region win with a 17-point, 11-rebound performance. Fraley had solid support from Derek Snelgrove (14 points, 7 rebounds) and Chad Burnett (13 points). Beau Acuff’s 11 points led the way for the Skyhawks (4-12, 0-2).
Kaki Smith and Catherine Herring set the pace for the Hammond girls (5-10, 1-1) by scoring 20 and 14 points, respectively. Emma Cummings scored 15 points and Corrie Hester tallied 14 for the Falcons, who fell to 5-10, 0-3.
Friday’s region round features Hammond at Cardinal Newman and Heathwood Hall at Augusta Christian.
