Lower Richland kept serve in Region 5-3A boys basketball on Tuesday, downing Brookland-Cayce. Meanwhile, Chapin and Airport score wins to raise playoff hopes.
LRincreased its lead over idle Dreher in the standings with the 72-66 win, while the Bearcat fell back to fourth place. Edwards Stephens led LR with 23 points followed by Chris King (17), Vincent Hicklan (12) and Eric Eaves (11).
Lower Richland travels to face Dreher on Friday with the chance to virtually lock up the region championship.
Five players finished with double-digit production, but it was not enough for B-C to prevail and hang on to a share of third place. Jonathan Rumph finished with 18 points, Mike Lieberman chipped in with 12, Marcus Kinley and Curtis Barber both scored 11 and Antwon Dallas had 10.

Elsewhere, Chapin took sole possession of third place with a 61-60 win at A.C. Flora, and Airport moved out of the region basement thanks to a 61-47 win over Midland Valley.
Chapin (9-8, 4-3) edged ACF by hitting just enough clutch free throws down the stretch. Brian Kidd deposited three key free throws with time waning and Michael Melsin canned one and hit a big 3-pointer. But the winning point came one charity toss by Tony Dargan with 10 seconds to go. The Eagles then had to sweat out a final Falcons bid to win.
Ricardo Martin’s 15 points and Bradley Knotts; 13 helped Airport (6-11) vault over Flora and Midland Valley into contention for a state playoff berth. The Eagles postseason hopes could rest on Friday home game against archrival Brookland-Cayce.

Lower Richland tuned up for Friday’s key Region 5-3A girls basketball confrontation at Dreher by breezing by Brookland-Cayce 64-24.
Desiree Davis and Breshay Johnson had the best numbers for the 15-3 Diamond Hornets in the romp over the last place Bearcats. Davis finished with 11 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Johnson rang up 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
Second-place Dreher was idle on Tuesday.
In other games, Airport (15-2) stayed in the hunt to a home game in the first round of the state playoffs by dumping Midland Valley 54-31 and staying put in third place, one game back of Dreher in the loss column. Jessica Ellison led the Eagles with 15 points and Taylor Vinson talled 11.
A.C. Flora (13-7) dropped Chapin 53-40 and further secured its fourth place position in the standings. Kyeshia Dawkins and Alexis Jacobs set the tone for the Falcons with 16 and 10 points, respectively. Chapin’s Savannah Frick deposited a game high 22 points.
