While Irmo escaped a potential Region 4-4A boys basketball upset on Tuesday, Richland Northeast and Ridge View won as expected.
RNE (13-6) remained one game in the loss column behind Irmo with a 61-49 victory against last place Lugoff-Elgin. In all, 11 Cavaliers got into the scoring act with Kelvin Cruse emerging as the nominal leader with 10 points. Darius Custard grabbed game scoring honors with 18 points for the Demons (3-14).
Ridge View (12-7) did not shoot the ball particularly well, but the Blazers nonetheless kept the visiting Silver Foxes at bay to sweep the season series. Stephen Rembert had 18 points and six rebounds, Cameron lee chipped in with 11 points, Jamaal Brantley scored eight points and took three charges, Blake Taylor and Marion Jenkins scored eight points as well. Jenkins also grabbed a team high 10 rebounds in one of his best outings off the bench this season.
RV coach John Combs was very pleased with the defensive effort, especially against DF’s Ike Harris who was held to six points after burning the Blazers for 20 in the first meeting on Dec. 14.
Chad Geter led Dutch Fork (5-15) with 21 points and Eric Bethel added 12.
Region 4-4A boys standings
Irmo 7-0, Richland NE 5-1, Spring Valley 5-3, Ridge View 4-4, Blythewood 3-4, Dutch Fork 2-6, Lugoff-Elgin 0-8.
