Heathwood Hall swept Ben Lippen in a SCISA Region 1-3A basketball doubleheader on Friday.
The Highlander boys (17-5, 4-1) bounced back from a showdown loss to Cardinal Newman to dump the visiting Falcons 49-39 behind 27 points from Corey Littlejohn. Thomas Burg scored 12 points in support. Heathwood Hall was without Joseph James, who suffered a concussion in a fall on Tuesday at Cardinal Newman. The junior guard could be out for another week.
Ben Lippen (8-13, 2-3) got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 19-12 lead by the end of the first quarter, but scored only 22 points the rest of the way. Derek Snelgrove had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Falcons, and Drew Fraley tallied 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting from the field.
In the opener, the Heathwood Hall girls (16-5, 5-0) beat Ben Lippen 36-22 with star A’ja Wilson on the shelf with an ankle injury. Sarah Scott and Victoria Dickerson set the pace for the Highlanders with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Emma Cummings scored 11 for the Falcons (5-13, 0-5).
