Lower Richland clinched at least a share of the Region 5-3A girls basketball championship with a 45-32 win over A.C. Flora on Friday. The Diamond Hornets (17-3, 10-0) can make it official by downing Midland Valley at home on Tuesday.
Freshman Breshay Johnson led LR with 11 points and senior Bea Williams added 10. Kayesha Dawkins scored 14 points and Alexis Jacobs tallied 12 for Flora (14-8, 5-5).
Dreher (13-9, 7-3) rebounded from a bitter loss to Airport with a 69-23 conquest of Chapin. Kaydra Duckett and Makayla Johnson led the Blue Devils with 19 and 13 points, respectively.

The Brookland-Cayce boys team gave itself a fighting chance at earning a state playoff spot with a 57-51 win over Midland Valley. In the process, the Bearcats (7-13, 4-7) ended a seven-game overall losing streak and a six-game slide in region outings.
Jonathan Rumph led with a 28-point effort and Antwon Dallas chipped in with 14.
The Bearcats, who have one game left in the regular season on Tuesday vs. last place A.C. Flora, is now in a virtual three-way tie with Midland Valley and Airport for fourth place. Two of the three teams will make the state playoff cut.
