Chapin’s boys basketball season came to an end Friday in Santee where the Eagles dropped a 70-54 decision to host Lake Marion in the second round of the Class 3A state playoffs.
The elimination of the Eagles, who finished 13-11, leaves Lower Richland as the only Midlands entry left standing in the 3A boys sweepstakes.
Chapin hung tough for three and a half quarters before the Gators pulled away. The score was tied at 40 at the end of the third quarter, but back-to-back 3-pointers early in the fourth ignited a 14-4 run that staked Lake Marion to a 54-40 lead with 4:55 remaining.
Michael Melvin led the Eagles with 13 points, Brian Kidd scored 12 and Michael Weimer tallied 11.
