Dutch Fork joined Spring Valley in the Class 4A girls basketball playoff winner’s circle, scoring a 41-37 road win Friday at Hillcrest.
The Silver Foxes (23-2) hit the road again on Monday for a third-round confrontation vs. Region 1 champion Greenwood.
Dutch Fork did not shoot well from either the field or at the free throw line in Simpsonville and were guilty of 21 turnovers, but it did enough good things to rate its eighth Elite Eight spot since 2001. The Silver Foxes were just 15-for-45 from the field last night, and were simply dreadful at the line – converting just nine of 23 attempts.
The only player immune from the poor marksmanship was Alaina Coates, who finished with team high totals in points (13) and rebounds (7). The 6-foot-4 sophomore was 5-for-8 from the floor, 3-for-4 at the line. She also blocked five shots and had two assists.
Never miss a local story.
The rest of the team shot 27% from the field, 32% at the line.
Still, Donnesha Shuler, Shelby Curtis and Sierre Stokes all made key contributions to the win. Shuler scored 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and finished with two assists and two steals. Curtis chipped in eight points, six boards, four steals and two assists. Stokes had six points, three rebounds and three steals.
