Dutch Fork is looking to improve on last season’s 9-16 softball performance.
The Silver Foxes will build around veterans Haley Elkins, Chelsey Blasingame and Lacy Smith. Elkins, a freshman, will continue to be the fixture in the circle, and is healthy after dealing with shoulder issues in the past. Seniors Elkins and Blasingame are potent hitters, who combined for more than 10 home runs last season, said coach Laurie Epps. Elkins is back for her third season at shortstop, while Blasingame shifts from third base to the key catcher position this season. Eight-grade center fielder Madison Brown is a newcomer to watch.
Seniors Kimyatta Brooks and Jessica Tulser, junior Jeanna Meetze, sophomores Tiffany McRae, Rebecca Prohaska and Amanda Williams, freshmen Emily Hatfield and Sarah Hofferth and eight-grader Samantha Tulser round out the varsity roster.
“We are young in a few positions, but our chemistry is the best it has been in three years,” said Epps. “I have a great group of girls with tremendous focus and work ethic.”
Never miss a local story.
The Silver Foxes open the regular season and Region 4-4A play at Irmo on March 8.
