Blythewood rallied to beat Spring Valley 4-3 in the Region 4-4A opener for both teams on Tuesday. The Bengals tied the game at 3-3 with two runs in the top of of the sixth inning and scored the winner in the top of the seventh.
Spring Valley had six hits in the game, half of them being doubles. Every Vikings safety turned into a run scored or a RBI. Ashley Gurganious, Rachel Medlin and Mariaha Sanborn had the run-scoring hits.
Lugoff-Elgin (3-3) made its Region 4-4A debut a memorable one with a 15-1 rout Richland Northeast. Taylor Rawl was the Demons hitting star, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Taylor Kirkland and Meagan Owens provided plenty of offensive support. Kirkland went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while Owens was 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. Rawl and Owens stroked triples. Jessica McCaskill also had a 2-for-4 night at the plate.
Jessica Koumas and Alexis Blakeney shared the pitching shores. Koumas allowed one hit and struck out five in two innings. Blakeney waqs charged with one run and two hits in three innings of work.
