Thomas Bessinger and Grayson Greiner combined for a four-hit shutout for Blythewood on Friday at the International Paper Classic baseball tournament. The Bengals improved to 2-0 at the event in Georgetown with a 2-0 win over Byrnes.
Bessinger tossed four shutout innings in the starting role, allowing four hits. The sophomore right-hander had three strikeouts and one walk. Greiner, who also belted a solo home run for an insurance tally in the fifth inning, threw three innings of perfect relief to pick up the save.
Brandon Burris created the only run that mattered in the third inning. He drew a walk, stole second based, moved to third on a fly ball to the outfield and scored on a wild pitch.
The Bengals are one away from clinching a spot in the championship game on Sunday. To get to the final, Blythewood must beat Wando on Saturday
