White Knoll and Brookland-Cayce opened the Wildcat Invitational softball tournament with first-round wins on Friday at the Pine Grove Sports Complex.
Both teams face a four-game slate on Saturday.
White Knoll and Dorman engaged in a scoreless duel for five innings before the Cavaliers from Spartanburg plated an unearned run in the top of the sixth. The Timberwolves countered with two runs in the bottom of the sixth
Lydia Trexler evened the score on a ringing double to left center field to score Kali Bishop and dashed home with the winning run on a ground out.
WK pitcher Savannah Terrapin got the final out in the seventh on a fly ball to left with two Dorman runners on base.
The Timberwolves improved to 6-1 with the tight verdict.
Brookland-Cayce crushed Spartanburg 24-4 to bag its fifth straight win after opening the season with a 1-0 loss to Chapin.
