Chapin took command in Region 5-3A softball on Thursday, completing a sweep of Brookland-Cayce with a 6-0 win. The top-ranked Eagles opened the conference campaign with a 1-0 win at B-C two weeks ago on March 8.
Pitcher Taylor Morgan dominated the Bearcats again. In the first meeting, the hard-throwing junior right-hander fired a one-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts. In the rematch, Morgan tossed a three-hit shutout with 12 whiffs.
Offensively, Natalie Harper and Samantha Boland were the Chapin headliners. Harper had three hits – a single, a double and a triple – and scored three runs. Boland finished with four RBIs – ripped a two-run double down the left field line in the first inning off B-C ace Chandler Terrapin and added a two-run single in the fifth inning.
Chapin (11-1 overall, 7-0 in region) now has a two-game lead over B-C and Midland Valley. The high-flying Eagles have won eight in a row since losing to 4A Mauldin in the championship game of the Snowball Classic pre-season tournament.
