Top-ranked Chapin continued its dominant play in Region 5-3A softball on Friday, defeating host Midland Valley 6-1. Jason Jolley’s Eagles (13-2, 9-0) now have a two-game in the region standings over the other contenders with three conference games left.
Junior pitcher Taylor Morgan was outstanding in the circle again, allowing just three hits while striking out 12.
The Eagles broke open a scoreless duel with two runs in the top of the fourth inning. Whitley Martin got things going with a double and scored the first run on a single by Morgan. The other run crossed on a ground out off the bat of Savannah Frick.
Chapin added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Addy Schelble delivered a RBI hit in the fifth, and Lindsay Harris had a run-scoring hit in the sixth. The Eagles finished the game with a two spot in the seventh with Samantha Boland and Frick driving in the runs.

Chapin returns to region action on April 12 against Lower Richland with the chance to secure at least a share of the 5-3A championship with a win.
The Eagles haver swept top contenders Midland Valley and Brookland-Cayce, and have one game left with second-place Airport.
