Cardinal Newman, Lexington and host Brookland-Cayce all advanced to the Palmetto Cup semifinals on the strength of third round wins on Wednesday at The Cage.
Cardinal Newman (18-3) concluded a 3-0 Group A performance with a 3-2 win over Wando, the second-ranked team in Class 4A. Nestor Jaramillo’s second-half goal broke a 2-2 deadlock. Kyle Maitland tallied both Cardinal goals in the first half. Timmy Cunningham had six save in goal for CN.
Lexington (13-5-1) finished a 3-0 run through Group B with a 3-0 win over North Myrtle Beach. Rustin McAlister scored two goals and Hunter Bailey accounted for the other Wildcat tally.
Brookland-Cayce (13-5-2) played Clover to a 2-2 draw, but it was good enough to secure the host Bearcats with the Group C title. Freshman Aaron Davis scored the equalizer on a head in the 72nd minute and earned an assist on teammate Herbert Cojulun’s goal in the third minute of the match.

Lexington squares off against Clover in the first semifinal match at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday at The Cage. Cardinal Newman meets Brookland-Cayce at 10:30 a.m. The championship match is tentative set for 5 p.m., but the title bout will be at 2:30 p.m. if Cardinal Newman advances.
