After two rounds of play in the baseball and softball state playoffs, the Midlands report cards are virtually identical.
Three area baseball teams and three softball squads have advanced to the district championship round on Wednesday, needing just one more win to qualify for the Elite Eight phase of the postseason. Blythewood, A.C. Flora and Brookland-Cayce will host district baseball finales, while surprising Dutch Fork and Spring Valley and Gilbert are the district final hosts in softball.
Tonight, 16 Midlands teams face win-or-pack-it-in outings - eight in baseball, eight in softball.
The baseball scheduled includes Laurens at Spring Valley (District 2-4A), Wilson at Chapin (7-3A), Mid-Carolina at Batesburg-Leesville (2-2A), Pendleton at Gilbert (3-2A), Woodland at Pelion (8-2A), Irmo at Carolina Forest (5-4A), Dutch Fork at Ashley Ridge (6-4A) and Richland NE at South Aiken (7-4A).
