Gilbert and Swansea both fell in the Class 2A softball state playoffs on Monday.
Gilbert dropped a 6-0 decision to host Buford in the second round of the Upper State tournament, and will host Central Wednesday in an elimination game. The Indians opened the US tourney with a 5-1 win over Central on Friday. The Pageland Eagles stayed alive by beating Andrew Jackson, 5-0, on Monday.
Swansea, which pulled out a dramatic 7-6 win over Silver Bluff ran into another Region 5 rival in the second round of the Lower State tournament on Monday. This time, the outcome was not as pleasing. The Tigers fell 8-4 to the host Warhorses and must beat Silver Bluff in a return engagement at home on Wednesday to stay in the hunt for a state title. Silver Bluff sent Hanahan packing on Monday, 6-3.
