Ridge View is the only Midlands school that has had to make a football scheduling adjustment as Hurricane Irene approaches the southeastern U.S. coast.
The Blazers agreed to move its season-opening game with Wando at Blythewood District Two Stadium originally scheduled for Friday to tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. Virtually every Friday game involving Lowcountry or Pee Dee area schools has been rescheduled to Thursday.
Ridge View is looking for a bounce-back year after going 8-26 over the past three seasons. Ridge View went with youth a year ago and closed with a 2-9 report card.
Former Spring Valley boss Jimmy Noonan is the Wando coach. The Vikings had their last big run of success during Noonan’s eight-year tenure (59-41). Spring Valley’s last winning season (9-3) and state playoff appearance came in Noonan’s final year (2006).

The Warriors from Mt. Pleasant are 7-16 in two seasons under Noonan and have not finished in the black since 2004.
Wando returns just two starters on offense and seven on defense. The top player is defensive end Gimel President who has committed to Auburn. President had 72 tackles and six sacks last season.
Series history - The teams have split two games. Ridge View won the first meeting in the first round of the state playoffs in 2005, while the Warriors prevailed 31-0 last year in the initial regular-season clash.
