Heathwood Hall opened the 2011 volleyball season with an impressive, come-from-behind SCISA non-region win over Wilson Hall on Tuesday.
Ashley Barry’s Highlanders dropped the first two games of the match, but stormed back to take the next three games 25-14, 25-15 and 15-10.
A’ja Wilson was the Heathwood star, ringing up 26 kills, 23 digs and three blocks. Teammate Chelsea Joseph chipped in nine aces, eight kills, 12 digs and one block.
Elsewhere, Lugoff-Elgin started the season in impressive fashion with a tough 3-2 non-region win over White Knoll, the seventh-ranked team in Class 4A. The unranked Demons dropped the first game 25-16 and had their backs to the wall after losing the third game 25-21. L-E, however took the fourth and fifth games (25-16, 15-9) to claim the match victory.

Blythewood, ranked sixth in 4A, opened the regular season with 2-0 wins over Keenan, the No. 3 team in 2A, and neighboring Ridge View in a tri-match at Keenan.
