Unranked Spring Valley and Lugoff-Elgin continues their impressive early-season play with Region 4-4A volleyball wins on Tuesday.
The defending region champion Vikings shut out sixth-ranked Blythewood on the Bengals court, prevailing by 25-19, 25-21 and 25-20 counts in its region and regular season opener.
Veteran setter Cristina Nazario keyed the attack with 45 assists. Katlyn McDaniel and Tatyana Gibbs were the hit leaders with eight and five kills respectively. Abreia Epps had eight kills and freshman BiJonae Jones had seven for Blythewood, which fell to 3-1.
Lugoff-Elgin (2-0) blanked Richland Northeast in its region opener – 25-13, 15-9, 25-9. Freshman Sarah Casion had three blocks, six kills and six aces in a solid all-around performance. Librero Megan Kirkland had 17 serve-receive passes with just one error.
