Columbia vs. Gilbert

Game notes: Columbia (4-2, 0-1) will be looking to snap out of as two-game loosing skid. The Capitals had a rough go against Strom Thurmond last week, dropping a 49-20 decision in the Region 3-2A opener. QB Ky Tyler accounted for the bulk of the Caops offensive output – running for 85 yards and one TD, passing for 219 yards and two scores Gilbert (2-4), 1-0) is fresh from a significant win overt Batesburg-Leesville. The 21-14 decision ended an 18-game losing streak against the Panthers. It was the first success in the series for the Indians since 1991. QB Connor Owings continues to be Gilbert’s offensive leader. He has 499 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 78 carries and is 43-for-72 passing for 462 yards and two TDs. Collins Shirley has a team high 54 tackles on defense.
Series history: Columbia has won five in a row and enjoys a 10-3 series advantage.
Eau Claire vs. Batesburg-Leesville
Site: Bolden Stadium. Time: Thursday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Something has to give. Eau Claire (0-6, 0-1) has lost seven in a row overall. B-L (0-6, 0-1) enters mired in an eight-game losing slide.
Series history: B-L was a 38-18 winner in the first-ever meeting of the team last year.
Keenan vs. Strom Thurmond
Site: Bolden. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Keenan (3-3, 1-0) opened the Region 3-2A campaign with a lackluster 19-6 conquest of winless Eau Claire. The Raiders must play at a higher level to have chance against unbeaten, second-ranked Strom Thurmond Daetron Hyman (475 yards, 3 TDs) and David Michael Clark (422 yards, 2 TDs) share the Keenan running game load. QB Titus Hopkins is 49-for-83 passing for 862 yards and seven scores. WR Matrick Belton is up to 28 catches for 635 yards and four TDs. Tyler George (63 tackles, 2 interceptions) and Jeremy Austin (53 tackles) are leaders on defense Strom Thurmond (6-0, 1-0) scored an impressive 49-20 win over Columbia. Malcolm Watkins ran for 148 yards and two touchdowns, while QB Raleigh Yeldell had 93 yards rushing and 92 yards passing with one score by land and one by air. The Rebels rolled even though junior star Darius Hammond did not play.
Series history: Keenan has beaten the Rebels just three times in 23 tries – the last win coming in 1991.
Swansea vs. Pelion
Site: Doug Bennett Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Swansea (4-2, 1-0) trailed Silver Bluff 14-6 at halftime, but dominated after the break on the way to a 20-14 win. Travis Loadholt had a big night – rushing for 151 yards on 21 carries, throwing a scoring pass in the second half and ringing up seven tackles on defense with one of the hits causing a fumble. QB Jordan Chavis hit Randy Brown with a game-winning, 20-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter. Anthony Lewis was outstanding on defense with six tackles, including four TFL Pelion (2-4, 0-1) suffered a 42-14 whipping at the hands of Edisto in the Region 5-2A opener and is 0-6 since moving into the region in 2010.
Series history: Swansea brought a four-year Pelion winning streak to an end last season with a 35-28 triumph over the Panthers. The Tigers lead the series, 11-8.
McBee vs. C.A. Johnson
Site: McBee Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: CAJ (2-4, 0-1). Has lost foutr in a row, two by shutout. Last week the Green Hornets took a 17-0 hit at the hands of Great Falls in the Region 3-1A opener for both teams. To date, RB Wilbert Jones has 200 yards rushing on 31 carries, QB Eddie Boatwright is 39-for-89 passing for 708 yards and five touchdowns, WR Anthony Eaddy has 12 catches for 256 yards and leads the team in scoring with four TDs and 24 points and Tyrik Pryon is the leading tackler with 59.5 stops McBee (0-6, 0-1) dropped a 19-13 region decision to Lewisville. The Panthers have lost seven games in a row.
Series history: McBee thumped the Hornets, 35-0, in the first meeting of the teams last year.
