Porter-Gaud vs. Hammond

Game notes: Hammond (6-1, 5-1) heads to Charleston for a rematch of last season’s SCISA championship game without the services of star running back Joey DeAngelis, who suffered a season-ending, career-ending knee injury in last week’s 31-7 win over Laurence Manning Academy. The return (from injury) of B.J. Bennett now becomes absolutely essential if the Skyhawks hope to keep their streak of championships going Porter-Gaud (5-2, 4-2) is coming off a 45-17 rout of Cardinal Newman. Hudson Worthy had a monster passing game – going 35-for-44 for 526 yards and five touchdowns. O date, the Cyclones standout senior quarterback is 149-for-219 for 2,016 yards and 16 TDs with just three interceptions.
Series history: The Skyhawks is 8-0 against P-G since the Cyclones eliminated them from the SCISA playoffs in the first round of postseason play in 2005. Hammond has not lost in the playoffs since that 42-29 decision six years ago.
Heathwood Hall vs. Pinewood Prep
Site: Heathwood Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Heathwood Hall is running out of time. The Highlanders (1-6, 0-6) must win must beat Pinewood Prep to keep alive hope for a SCISA state playoff berth. Heathwood is coming off a 34-14 loss to Augusta Christian ... Pinewood Prep (2-5, 1-5) are fresh from a 32-9 loss to Orangeburg Prep and have scored just 78 points to date.
Series history: Pinewood pulled off a 14-11 win in Summerville last year to even the series at two wins apiece.
Ben Lippen vs. Laurence Manning Academy
Site: Hataway-Weeber Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: Ben Lippen (3-4, 2-4) has blown its shot at earning a home date in the first round of the state playoffs in recent weeks with consecutive losses to SCISA powerhouses Hammond, Porter-Gaud and, last week, Wilson Hall. The Falcons managed only 187 yards in the 41-7 setback against Wilson Hall. RB Tyler Renew has held to a season low 54 yards rushing. The balanced Barons running game produced 295 yards LMA (3-3, 5-3) took a 31-7 hit last week at Hammond.
Series history: Ben Lippen was a 14-3 winner last season to cut the Swampcats’ series lead to 3-2.
Cardinal Newman vs. Wilson Hall
Site: George Watson Stadium. Time: Friday, 7:30 p.m.
Game notes: The winless Cardinals take on the unbeaten Barons in what should be a mismatch. Cardinal Newman (0-7, 0-6) suffered a 45-17 loss to Porter-Gaud last week, surrendering 640 yards to the potent Cyclones. The Cards could not stop the P-G passing game. The challenge this week is to deal with Wilson Hall’s relentless running game, which is averaging 287 yards, a game. The Barons have four runners with at least 230 yards and five touchdowns on the books. CN has managed only 308 yards and five TDs on the ground all season. The Cardinals losing streak now stands at 22 games.
Series history: Wilson Hall has won 12 of the last 13 meetings to assume a commanding 14-4 series lead.
