Seven-time Class 4A state champion Lexington rolled to an easy win at the Lower State girls golf qualifying tournament on Monday at Charwood Country Club.
The Wildcats finished with a winning team score of 307 points, 19 strokes ahead of runner-up South Aiken.
Sydney Legacy, who has only been playing golf for about two years, was the Lexington individual lead with a 69, followed by Lauren Stephenson (73), Hailey Cleary (78) and Ann Elizabeth Gore (87). Senior Braiden Furtick shot 89, but he scored did not contribute to the team tally.
The Wildcats will spend the rest of this week preparing for its eighth-straight championship bid at the two-day, 36-hole 4A state tournament Oct. 24-25 at Brookstone Meadows GC in Anderson.
Never miss a local story.
As usual, the Wren and Dorman teams are expected to be Lexington’s primary competition at state. Wren, which is serving as the host team, has beaten Lexington this season.
But as has been proven for so many years, taming the Wildcats at state is another matter altogether.
