Dreher, A.C. Flora and Chapin all managed sweeps in Region 5-3A basketball play on Tuesday.
The top-ranked Dreher girls (17-1, 9-0) topped Airport 60-21 for their 13th win in a row. Kaydra Duckett led the Blue Devils with 18 points, Johneisha Myers tossed in 15 and Jazmine Robinson contributed 10 to the cause. In the nightcap, Dreher (12-10, 6-3) rebounded by a loss to Lower Richland to stay in the running for a second-place finish by downing Airport 41-35. Chris Jones and John Myers led the Blue Devils with 11 and 10 points, respectively. The Eagle boys (11-10, 5-5) fell out of the running for second place with its fourth loss in the last five games.
A.C. Flora took two games at home against Midland Valley. The Falcons boys (13-8, 7-2) beat the Mustangs 68-47 for their fifth straight win. Matt Howard scored a game-high 25 points for ACF, and had solid backing from Rion Davis (15 points), Wilfred Roach (10) and Frank Woods (9). Kyeshia Dawkins (20 points) and Haniyyah Howard (10) led the Falcons girls (16-5, 6-3) to a 59-36 win in the opener.
Chapin was a winner in both games against host Brookland-Cayce. The big item was the first region win of the season for the Eagles boys team (6-12, 1-9). Tony Dargan led the way for Chapin with 16 points. Terry Jones tallied 16 points for the Bearcats (5-17, 1-9). Rebekah Muir scored 19 in Chapin’s 65-17 girls win. The Eagles improved to 11-10 overall, 6-4 in conference.
