Keenan vs. Columbia

Game notes: Keenan (4-2, 1-0 Region 3-2A) opened conference play with a 39-0 road win at North Central. The Raiders scored 13 points in each of the first three quarters before backing off on offense. The aggressive Keenan defense came up with three takeaways and turned away four Red Zone bids by the host Knights in the first half. Keenan had 352 yards on offense and limited NC to 222 Columbia (1-5, 0-1) is coming off a 38-19 setback against Fairfield Central and is looking to avoid its first five-game losing streak in 11 years.
Series history: Columbia has won two in a row over the Raiders and enjoys a 20-16 series lead.
Pelion vs. North Central
Site: Pelion Stadium.
Game notes: Pelion (2-4, 1-0 Region 3-2A) opened the conference campaign with a 38-30 win over Eau Claire. QB Zach Hawkins is 58-for-125 passing for 845 yards and nine touchdowns, and also has 106 yards rushing and three TD runs. Carlton Richard is the leading rusher with 434 yards and seven TDs on 73 carries. Isaiah Jenkins has also been a solid runner, posting 231 yards and two scores on 44 attempts. The Panthers have a productive trio of receivers in Freddie Phillips (19-211-0), Terry Davis (18-397-5) and Josh Lang (11-177-3). Mark Vuocolo (40 tackles) and Storm Guess (27 tackles, 3 interceptions) are the defensive standouts North Central (3-3, 0-1) managed just 220 yards and came up empty on four red zone chances in the first half in last week’s 39-0 loss to Keenan.

Fairfield Central vs. Eau Claire

Game notes: Eau Claire (1-5, 0-1 Region 3-2A) dropped a 38-30 decision to Pelion in last week’s region opener ... Fairfield Central (4-2, 1-0) opened conference action with a 38-19 home win over Columbia. DeAndre Belton led the Griffins with 77 yards rushing.
Series history: Talk about domination, Fairfield Central had won 17 in a row against the Shamrocks and 19 of the 20 meetings of the teams. Eau Claire’s lone success came in a 3-0 decision in 1990.
Ninety Six vs. Batesburg-Leesville
Site: Wilson Campbell Stadium.
Game notes: Batesburg-Leesville (3-3, 0-1 in Region 2-2A) was simply outclassed by Abbeville in last week’s region opener, falling 35-7 at Panther Stadium Ninety Six (3-4, 1-0) opened region play with a 35-15 win over Mid-Carolina. Quarterback Hunter Watson had two long scoring passes in the Wildcat win.
Series history: The teams are meeting for the first time since 2007. B-L has won three in a row to up its series lead to 13-3.
C.A. Johnson vs. McBee
Site: Bolden Stadium.
Game notes: C.A. Johnson (1-6, 1-0 Region 3-1A) snapped a nine-game losing streak with a 38-36 upset win over Great Falls in the region opener for both teams last week. Mike Knox had a brilliant individual performance while leading the Green Hornets to victory. The CAJ quarterback ran for 106 yards on 11 carries and darted for two two-point conversions, and hit on nine passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns and two two-point conversions. The busy receiver was Anthony Eaddy, who grabbed two scoring passes and both conversion tosses. Tarik Pryor rang up 16.5 tackles on defense, and Eaddy continued his big-play effort on defense with two pass break-ups, three forced fumbles and two recoveries McBee (0-6, 0-1) is in a major funk. The Panthers have lost 17 games in a row, with a defensive yield of 47.5 points per game during the slide. Last week, McBee suffered a 70-28 loss to Lewisville in the region opener, putting its season points allowed average to 50.5 a game.
Series history: The teams have split two games. CAJ evened the slate last season with a 45-26 region win.
