This week’s Big Ticket games:
FINAL WEEK OF 4A ACTION
Bluffton at Summerville: Win 601 for coach John McKissick and the region championship are on the line. Newcomer Bluffton puts it’s unbeaten record on the line against the storied Greenwave for the crown. Look for big play from Bobcat and North-South QB C.J. Frazier.
Greenwood at Laurens: The Eagles are flying high and will take on a rejuvenated Laurens team for the Region 1-4A crown. Laurens has played lights-out football since making a change at quarterback and believes it can pull the upset.
Lugoff-Elgin at Irmo: A win would give the Yellow Jackets the Region 4-4A championship. Kicker Ben Hinson is the best special teams weapon in the state and could be a big part of this game.
North Augusta at Dutch Fork: This one is for all of the marbles in Region 5-4A. Dutch Fork will bring in a high powered offense against a well-balanced Yellow Jacket team led by sophomore quarterback Trib Reese. Look for solid play from DF wide receiver Jordan Berry to make a difference.
South Aiken at Aiken: A win by South Aiken would give it the third spot in the Region 5, which would put them in the playoffs, provided Lexington beats White Knoll.
Spartanburg at Gaffney: These two don’t like each other and Spartanburg could knock the Indians from the region crown by beating them combined with a Byrnes win against Wade Hampton.
West Florence at South Florence: A win by South Florence gives it the region crown. West Florence is in contention but would need a miracle win by Carolina Forest against Conway to win it.
White Knoll at Lexington: This is for playoff spot. A White Knoll win puts it in. A Lexington win will get the Wildcats in if they can get help from Aiken against South Aiken.
TOP PLAYOFF MATCH UPS
Lower Richland at Blue Ridge: Lower Richland stands a chance at the biggest upset in 3A if it shows up with a physical defense. Look for the Hornets to be challenged by a high-powered offense from Blue Ridge.
Belton-Honea Path at Woodruff: What a matchup between two powerhouse programs. The Wolverines are playing well on offense and will take on a physical Bears team, which is strong in the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Manning at Myrtle Beach: Not a good draw for Myrtle Beach. Yes, Manning is a 3-seed, but not a typical 3-seed. The Monarch offense vs Myrtle Beach’s defense is the key to this game.
Southside at Hartsville: I mention this game because it is ridiculous that a 3-7 team (Southside) is in the postseason. Something must be done about this laughable points system.
Batesburg-Leesville at Chesterfield: The Flex-bone against the Spread. Two contrasting styles of offense collide.
Whale Branch at Allendale-Fairfax: Whale Branch will take on the Tigers, who are the top team in this classification. This will be a physical football game.
