Newberry advances in 2A; Flora rolls in Class 3A

Tysheen Nance rushed nine times for 101 yards and three touchdowns to lead Newberry to a 42-13 victory against Indian Land in the first round of the Class 2A, Division I playoffs.

As a team, Newberry rushed for 163 yards.

Newberry (8-3) plays at Columbia next week. Indian Land finishes at 1-10.

At Memorial Stadium, the Falcons spotted Pickens a 14-0 lead before roaring back to win their Class 3A playoff opener.

Pickens’ Angus Anderson scored on an 83-yard rush on the first play from scrimmage. After Matt Gravely hit a 45-yard field goal for the Blue Flame at the buzzer, the host Falcons held a 17-point halftime lead.

Anderson led the game with 162 yards on eight carries. Falcons quarterback Jake Lewis had 132 yards passing, and added 74 yards rushing.

A.C. Flora (10-1) will host Belton-Honea Path in the next week’s second round.

At Swansea, Travis Loadholt posted 66 yards on 22 carries and Johnathon Sutton led the defense with six tackles and a sack.

The Tigers (10-1) advance to the second round of the Class 3A playoffs and face top-ranked Hartsville on the road.

At Eden Stadium, Hammond’s Quayshon Myers posted 21 carries for 193 yards and two touchdowns, boosting his season total to 2,019 yards. Quarterback Jake Nidiffer put up 180 yards on 11-of-19 passing, and the Skyhawks’ defense forced four turnovers as the Skyhawks improved to 11-1.

Hammond will host Wilson Hall in next week’s SCISA Class 3A semifinals. Heathwood finishes 3-8.

At District 2 Stadium, Blythewood defeated rival Ridge View to improve to 9-2.

Ridge View’s Gary Bradshaw led the game with 151 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries. Ridge View quarterback Nolan Randolph completed nine passes for 139 yards, while Bengals quarterback Kylen Binn was 15-of-24 for 136 yards.

The Bengals (9-2, 4-1) earned the No. 2 seed in Region 4-4A. Ridge View is (6-5, 3-2).

At Greer, the No. 3 seed Diamond Hornets upset host Blue Ridge to secure Lower Richland’s first playoff victory in more than eight seasons. Lower Richland (5-6) survived a fourth-quarter rally to advance to the second round of the Class 3A tournament, and will face Daniel on the road.

At Lexington, Lamar Ray led the Timberwolves with 23 carries for 136 yards and two touchdowns. Quin Jones added 19 carries for 165 and one touchdown.

White Knoll (8-3) will play in the first round of the playoffs next week. Lexington finishes 3-8.

At Charleston, Cheyenne Bodie was the leading rusher for the Knights with 16 carries for 100 yards and three touchdowns. Conner Fox had 20 carries for 66 yards and one touchdown. Quarterback Alex Berry was 12-of-20 for 171 yards and four touchdowns.

W.W. King finishes the regular season 11-1 and advances to the semifinal round next week.

At Chesterfield, the Rams took advantage of three Panthers turnovers in the first half, including a fumble that Bubba Grant returned 99 yards for a touchdown.

Batesburg-Leesville rebounded with a quick score in the third quarter but then turned the ball over again, allowing Chesterfield 19 points off turnovers.

The Panthers ran the ball 50 times for 464 yards and six touchdowns. Ricky Smith had 28 carries for 228 yards and four touchdowns.

Chesterfield quarterback Dillon Rivers was 26-of-34 for 304 yards and one touchdown. Kendrick Melton had 21 carries for 134 yards and four touchdowns for Chesterfield.

Chesterfield (5-6) plays at Buford in the second round of playoffs next week. Bateburg-Leesville finishes 5-6.

At Bolden Stadium, the Raiders (6-4) advanced to the second round of the Class 2A Division I tournament with help from Peter Easaw, who returned a kickoff for a touchdown late in the game.
