Summerville delivers first loss to Bluffton, captures region title, 31-22

Summerville defeated previously unbeaten Bluffton 31-22 on Friday to claim the Region 8-AAAA championship.

It was the fifth straight win for the Green Wave (7-4, 5-0), who saw running back Davon Anderson rushed for 290 yards and three touchdowns (7, 69 and 60 yards).

Bluffton (10-1, 4-1) had outscored its opponents 497-100, but Summerville held the Bobcats scoreless in the first half, taking a 21-0 lead into the break.

But in the third quarter, Bluffton made some noise, and Summerville found itself in a fight for the championship.

"I feel good about the win but they aged me by about 10 years the last couple of minutes," Summerville coach John McKissick said. "We let them get back in it, but I'm glad we beat a good team."

Bluffton quarterback C.J. Frazier passed for more than 400 yards and three touchdowns. But Summerville sacked Frazier seven times and made four other tackles in the backfield.

Marquis Webber had a huge game for Bluffton, making 13 receptions for 248 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Demetrius Smalls added 100 receiving yards for the Bobcats.

Summerville's Darin Smalls had two interceptions. The first he returned 40 yards to set up an Anderson scoring run, and the second came in the end zone with 2:14 remaining in the final quarter.
