Gaffney, Byrnes roll in 4A

THE DIVISION I bracket of 4A has favorites as Gaffney proved their improvement is not fleeting, knocking off Ashley Ridge, 35-17, powered by 300 yards rushing from Hylek Foster.
Byrnes overcame a 21-0 first-quarter deficit to beat Spring Valley, 51-21. Shuler Bentley threw five touchdown passes.
Dutch Fork continues to improve on defense, and it beat a fiesty Hillcrest team, 49-21. Dutch Fork sophomore running back Matt Colburn has close to 800 yards rushing in three games.
The sleeper is White Knoll. The Timberwolves knocked off 10-1 Wando, 25-20, with solid defense and a great offensive performance from Quinn Jones.
Class 4A Division II
Goose Creek, the bracket favorite, rolled over Conway, 48-7, with more than 400 yards rushing and four backs gaining 100 yards or more. Tramel Terry had 103 rushing yards.
The shocker was Northwestern’s 34-0 trouncing of a good Easley team. The Trojans held the state’s leading rusher, C.J. Fuller, to 74 yards.
South Pointe rolled over Cane Bay, 45-7, and York blew out Laurens, 56-0, to set up a rematch between the rivals this week in the quarterfinals.
Danniel continue to flex its muscles, overpowering Blue Ridge, 49-17. Leading rusher Jae’lon Oglesby scored twice in the first half and rushed for 139 yards. He did not play in the second half.
Chester went into a two-minute drill with 6 minutes remaining, led by quarterback Tony Sanders, and beat Greenville, 21-20.
Union County got the only “upset” of the night, knocking off Greer, 31-14. It took advantage of four second half turnovers.
A.C. Flora got a huge win over a good Western conference team, Belton-Honea Path, 59-42.
Strom Thurmond flexed their muscles against a strong, visiting Marlboro County team, 31-13. The Rebels got outstanding play from both Juavier and Darrius Hammond, who each had 100 yards rushing.
Socastee knocked off Berkeley, 41-14, and Hartsville tamed Swansea, 49-36, setting up the lone battle of state unbeatens.
Class 2A Division I
Fairfield Central pummelled Crescent, 50-0, to advance. Cheraw topped Pendleton, 17-14.
Central, who has to be considered a favorite, knocked off Keenan, 35-6.
Class 2A Division II
Abbeville edged out a very good Saluda team, 6-3, to advance.
In the lower state bracket, Silver Bluff continues to roll, knocking off Barnwell, 17-0. Bishop England crushed Mullins, 56-8.
Class 1A Division I
Christ Church continues to roll up big wins, knocking off St. Joseph’s, 38-7, to advance to the state semifinals. Ware Shoals got what should be considered an upset with a 31-30 win over Lamar.
Johnsonville knocked off rival Hemingway, 20-7, to face Estill, who got a 20-14 win over Whale Branch.
Class 1A Division II
McCormick beat Blackville-Hilda, 28-16, to advance to the semifinals and could be a favorite to win it all. Two second-half touchdowns from Angelo Littlejohns and Jesse Freeman propelled the Chiefs.
Hunter-Kinard-Tyler knocked off Calhoun Falls, 40-8.
