Today’s state championship games

Capsule look at the teams and contests

Class 2A Division I

At Charlie W. Johnson Stadium

WHEN: 5:30 p.m.

COACHES: Demetrius Davis, Fairfield Central; Jackie Hayes, Dillon

RECORDS: Dillon 13-1, Fairfield Central 11-2

KEY PLAYERS: Dillon: RB Anthony Blue has filled in well for the injured Jabo Lee, to the tune of 1,568 yards and 23 touchdowns. Fairfield Central: DL Ryheem McDaniel will lead the charge to pressure Dillon’s young quarterback

OUTLOOK: Though both teams have high-powered and balanced offenses, they also have unyielding defenses — Fairfield Central allows an average of 12.7 points per game, Dillon a stingier 8.1. This game will be decided by attention to detail. The team that has the fewest turnovers is likely to wear the crown.

Class 2A Division II

At Charlie W. Johnson Stadium

WHEN: 8 p.m.

COACHES: John Cantey, Bishop England; Jamie Nickles, Abbeville

RECORDS: Abbeville 13-2, Bishop England 12-1

KEY PLAYERS: Bishop England: Kicker Drew Costa has a range upward of 47 yards, and a tendency to spot punts inside the 10. Abbeville: RB Wilson O’Bryan has averaged 6.26 yards per carry and is the leading scorer with 14 touchdowns.

OUTLOOK: Two-time Class A champ Abbeville started the season 4-1 with a taxing nonconference schedule and, after losing its regular season finale, has posted a 109-16 scoring advantage in the playoffs. In a less-challenging region, the Bishops battered opponents, and rumble into their second straight title game on an 11-win tear.
