It was tough night for Midlands teams at the Carolina Challenge Showcase portion of the Chick-fil-A Classic at Richland Northeast. Ridge View and Hammond suffered setbacks in the companion phase of the Chick-fil-A Classic.
Ridge View (7-2) was outclassed 79-46 by Olympic, NC – a team that scored a big win over Spring Valley at the Clarion Hotel Invitational last week. Deriece Parks led the Trojans with 23 points, including a 5-for-8 shooting show from 3-point range. Trey Mitchell and B.J. Gladden backed Parks with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Gladden was 5-for-5 from the field, and Mitchell grabbed a team high eight rebounds.
While Olympic shot the ball well (33-for-62, 53.2%), the Blazers were a chilly 16-for-49.
Jordan Portee had 12 points and three steals for Ridge View, Dre’Quwan Wages had 10 points and eight boards, Sterling Jackson scored 10 points and Jarrell Brantley pulled down a game high 10 rebounds.

Hammond went down swinging in its Chick-fil-A debut in a 72-66 overtime loss to Aquinas, GA. Freshman Seven Woods put on quite a show for the Skyhawks, pouring in 29 points, including six 3-pointers. The young star also chipped in six assists and seven steals. Teammates Xavier McDaniel and Spencer Carlson tallied 16 and 14 points, respectively.
Woods came into the game averaging 16.7 points, 4.4 assists and 3.3 steals.
It was the first loss of the season for the Skyhawks (7-1).
Ahmed Hill fired in 37 points for Aquinas.
