Spring Valley (3-0) should have no trouble this week with dates against Irmo (Tuesday) and Richland Northeast (Friday). The Vikings host Irmo on Tuesday and play at Richland Northeast on Friday. Cierra Carter (20.3 ppg, 8.6 rpg) has emerged as the new-look Vikings’ go-to player ... The game with the most importance figures to be Friday’s clash between Blythewood (2-1) and Ridge View (2-1). The winner stays very much in the hunt for, at the very least, a second-place region finish and a No. 2 state playoff seed Blythewood let a win against Spring Valley slip away last week, but the Bengal rebounded with a 52-22 win over Lugoff-Elgin – shooting the ball much more accurately than in the loss to the Vikings. Blythewood went 20-for-40 from the field against L-E with Aaliyah Keels going 5-for-5 on the way to a team high 14 points. Keels (12.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg), Kierra Brown (12.6 ppg, 3.1 apg) and Breelyn Blanding (10.4 ppg) set the pace for the Bengals Ridge View has yet to make a real statement, but Friday’s game is an opportunity for a quality win for the Blazers. Alexus Jackson (14.6 ppg, 10.1 rpg), Jontay Mithchem (13.1 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 3.9 apg, 4.1 spg) and Briana Johnson (11.2 ppg) are the RV leaders.
Dutch Fork was the only teams to go 2-0 in the first week of the region campaign. The undefeated, top-ranked, defending state champion Silver Foxes blew by South Aiken (60-19) and Aiken (55-40) last week and play at White Knoll (Tuesday) and Lexington (Friday) this week. Alaina Coates rang up 14 points, five rebounds and three blocks against South Aiken and was credited with 19 points, 14 boards, four blocks and five steals against Aiken. Sydney Shull had a combined 20 points for the week on 9-for-15 marksmanship from the field Lexington (1-1) opened region play with a 46-36 win over North Augusta, but closed the week with a 47-37 loss to South Aiken. Allison Kay paced the Wildcat win with 18 points and Destinee Langford added 12. Lexington plays at Aiken on Tuesday before returning home to face mighty Dutch Fork White Knoll (0-2) takes on Dutch Fork and South Aiken at home.
