Region 4-3A

Lower Richland and Dreher both enjoyed 2-0 weeks in Region 4-3A and the winning should continue this week for the powerhouse teams as they get ready for the rematch on Jan. 22 at The Diamond Mine LR (3-0) rolled over Camden (67-30) and Chapin (64-38). Breshay Johnson dominated against Camden with 19 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Johnson (15 points), Dayonshe’ Mitchell (14) and Jasmine Richardson (13) shared the load against Chapin. The Diamond Hornets host A.C. Flora on Tuesday and play at Westwood on Friday in preparation for Dreher The Blue Devils (2-1) rebounded from the bitter region-opening loss to Lower Richland with a sweep last week – taking down Westwood (44-11) and Camden (84-41). Kaydra Duckett had a good with with 23 points vs. Westwood and 19 vs. Camden. Freshman Jhileiya Dunlap had a game high 22 points and Makayla Johnson rang up a season high 13 in the rout of Camden. Dreher hosts Chapin on Tuesday and travels to A.C. Flora on Friday A 2-0 week allowed Flora to position itself in third place behind LR and Dreher. Kyeshia Dawkins produced 26 points, 11 rebounds, nine steals and four assists in a 55-39 win over Chapin, while Haniyyah Howard chipped in a double-double (13 points, 10 rebounds). The Falcons rallied from a 33-32 halftime deficit to beat Westwood 58-47 on Friday behind Howard (23 points, Dawkins (14) and Regina Tapp (12) With Flora (2-1) taking on LR and Dreher this week, the rest of the pack has a chance to make up from ground, in particular Camden (1-2) which faces Westwood on Tuesday and Chapin on Friday. Quasha Jefferson (11.4 ppg, 7.1 rpg) leads the way for the Bulldogs. First-year Westwood presents a balanced attack led by Stacia Gayton (9.2 ppg, 8.0 rpg), Taylor Toney (8.9 ppg), Kaylah Cohen (8.5 ppg) and Kayla Atkins (8.3 ppg, 12.6 rpg). Shaleighya Sulton (16.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg) is the big gun for Chapin.

Region 5-3A

Airport (3-0) has emerged as a title threat with solid defensive play. The Eagles are allowing an average of just 18.7 points per game in conference play to date. Airport beat Strom Thurmond 30-21 on Tuesday in a key early game and finished with week with a 34-22 success against Gilbert. The Eagles travels to face 3-0 Midland Valley on Tuesday in the region game of the week Gilbert (1-2), Brookland-Cayce and Swansea are battling it out for fourth place and the final state playoff invitation. The picture will become a bit clearer this week as Swansea (0-3) plays at B-C (0-3) on Tuesday and hosts Gilbert on Tuesday.
