Dutch Fork had its biggest scare of the season on Tuesday at Aiken, but the top-ranked, undefeated Silver Foxes escaped with a 51-46 decision over the Green Hornets that extended their winning streak to 31 games.

Faye Norris’ powerhouse seemed ready to post another blowout with after a 16-2 run in the second quarter set its halftime lead at 32-14. But the Green Hornets dominated the second half, starting with an 18-8 surge in the third period.

Aiken pulled within 51-49 on a 3-pointer with 18 seconds to go, but the Silver Foxes were able to put it away when senior Ky’Aire Daniels went 4-for-4 in pressure situations at the free-throw like in the waning seconds.

Alaina Coates paced Dutch Fork (21-0, 7-0) with 23 points, 13 rebounds, five steals and two blocks. Zhane Green backed the 6-foot-5 senior center with 10 points and Sydney Shull contributed six points, nine assists and five steals to the cause.

The Silver Foxes can clinch the region No. 1 state playoff seed with a win over last-place White Knoll on Friday at home.
