Richland Northeast eliminated Blythewood from state playoff contention on Tuesday with a 52-47 Region 4-4A boys basketball win, setting up Friday’s region finale against archrival Spring Valley.
The Cavaliers (16-7, 5-4) got 23 points from Quiron Cooke in the win. RNE is one game behind Spring Valley (15-9, 6-3) in the race to finish in second place behind unbeaten, nationally-ranked Irmo and earn a home date in the first round of the 4A state playoff which begin on Feb. 13.
The Vikings saw their region championship hopes disappear in a 88-54 blowout loss at Irmo on Tuesday.
Otherwise, the state playoff picture is set. Irmo is the No. 1 boys seed with Ridge View at No. 4. Spring Valley’s girls are set as the No. 1 seed, followed by Ridge View, Blythewood and Irmo.
