It's been a big week for personal honors for Dutch Fork basketball star Alaina Coates.

The 6-foot-5 center was the only South Carolina player (male or female) to be named to participate in the McDonald's All-America Gam3 on April 3 in Chicago at the United Center. Coates, who is averaging 20.4 points, 11.0 rebounds and 3.6 blocks per game, was also named the Class 4A player of the year in South Carolina. The individual glory is nice, but the University of South Carolina-bound Coates is more interested in leading the undefeated Silver Foxes to a second straight state championship.

The all-state announcements included big news for a number of Midlands standouts. Keenan's Marcus Stroman and Keira Robinson, for instance, were both named the Class 2A players of the year. Stroman, a junior, is averaging 17.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 7.3 assists and 3.1 steals for the state title-hopeful Raiders. Robinson, a four-year starter, is averaging 21.2 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 6.6 steals a game.

In all, 18 Midlands players were named all-state this season.
