Spring Valley cooled off Lugoff-Elgin and sophomore pitcher Erin Blizzard with a 2-0 Region 4-4A softball win on Wednesday in its annual Pink Out benefit game.
The host Vikings ended L-E’s four-game winning streak and Blizzard’s recent run of shutout performances in region games. SV scored unearned runs in the first and third innings to to back the pitching of Anna Davis its and run its overall record to 10-3, its region mark to 6-0.
Davis, the Vikings own sophomore ace in the circle, was a bit better than Blizzard, allowing only three hits in the shutout performance. Blizzard, who had two five-inning perfect games against Richland Northeast and Irmo during the recent hot streak, allowed five Spring Valley safeties.
Davis lead off the game for the Vikings by reaching first base on an error, and she eventually scored in another boot to end Blizzard’s shutout-inning binge. In the third, Christie Reilly opened with a double to left field and made her way home on another L-E defensive mishap.
Lugoff-Elgin now stands at 5-7, 3-3.
