Swansea vs. Brookland-Cayce

Tonight, 7:30 p.m.

at Swansea

This matchup between the Swansea Tigers and Brookland-Cayce Bearcats will determine the Region 5-3A leader, as both teams are 3-0 in the league. The host Tigers have won eight in a row, with six shutouts and a 52-4 scoring advantage in the streak. Swansea also is undefeated at home. In the midst of a three-game road trip, the Bearcats (8-1-1) are looking to extend their eight-game win streak and are coming off their fifth shutout win behind goalkeeper Nicole McGee.

Boys soccer

SC Palmetto Cup

in its 21st year

With the Easter holiday comes the Palmetto Cup, the state’s top mid-season boys soccer tournament.

The tournament, hosted by Brookland-Cayce, runs April 3-6. The 16-team field includes last year’s 3A champion Fort Mill, 4A finalist Wando, and upstart Westwood.

Featured matchups include Cardinal Newman vs. Fort Mill at noon on April 3, Lexington vs. Myrtle Beach at 2 p.m. on April 4, and Brookland-Cayce facing Walhalla at 6 p.m. on April 5.

The tournament championship is scheduled for 5 p.m. on April 6.


Forest Acres Classic

The annual Celebrity Home Run Derby kicks off the Forest Acres Classic on Monday at A.C. Flora.

This competition begins in earnest Tuesday, with West Carteret (N.C.) challenging a strong Belle Vernon team out of Pennsylvania at 11 a.m. The eight-team bracket includes some of the state’s heavy-hitting programs — Sumter, White Knoll, Riverside and the host Falcons.

Featured games include White Knoll vs. Flora at 8 p.m. on April 2, and Riverside vs. Flora at 8 p.m. on April 3.

The championship game is on April 5 at 8 p.m.
