Jason Powell has resigned as the head boys basketball coach at Richland Northeast to become the new athletics director at Westwood – the newest Richland 2 district school that opened in August.
“I am very excited about the new position, but I know that I will miss the years I spent at RNE,” said Powell. “And, of course, I’m sure I’ll miss coaching, but I can’t say that I will never coach again at some point.”
Powell was a fixture on the RNE hoop scene since arriving as an assistant under new Cavaliers coach Gary Fulmer in 1994. He got his first head job at Spring Valley in 2001-02 before returning to his old home base to replace Fulmer the following season.
Powell’s career record is 199-114.
