The annual Forest Acres Classic spring break baseball tournament at A.C. Flora begins Monday with a reception, a base running competition and a home run derby, followed by a full slate of games on Tuesday. The tournament concludes with place games on Friday.
A.C. Flora and White Knoll are the Midlands entries, though Hammond will play one game on Tuesday to fill a gap created by the late arrival of Great Bridge, VA.
The host Flora Falcons enter the tourney with a 9-4 record and ranked No. 2 in Class 3A. Madison Stokes (.405, 14 RBI), Donald Gillespie (.378, 13 RBI, 2 HR), Everett Eynon (.368, 11 R), Austin Beskid (.364, 11 R, 8 RBI), Schroder Carlton (.333, 11 R, 10 RBI) and Jake Lewis (.229, 14 R) are the top Falcons offensive producers. Davis Funderburk has been the pitching staff ace with a 2-1 record, a 2.53 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. ACF boasts a 2.49 team ERA and a 1.24 WHIP.
White Knoll (7-8) has been an up-and-down outfit so far, but the Timberwolves have been hot of late – winning four of their last five games, including Saturday’s 6-4 success against Flora in a pre-tournament tune-up at Falcon Field on Saturday. Delvin Riley (.480, 5 HR, 18 R, 12 RBI) and Brandon Tillmon (.351, 4 HR, 20 RBI) are WK’s prime offensive threats.
