Socastee Braves walk off with the Grand Strand softball championship

It only took Socastee softball a few seconds to go from a near no-hitter to a walk-off, 1-0, win Friday over Ryken (Md.) in the Grand Strand Sotball Classic finals.

The Braves’ first hit of the game came from Blake Smith, a triple that plated Haleigh Ferro from second base for the walk-off win.

Pitchers Mallorie Roesing (Socastee) and Madison Aughinbaugh each threw complete games, Roesing had four strikeouts, while Aughinbaugh struck out 11 and carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning.

CCU Men’s Track

The Chanticleers competed in three events Friday in Auburn, Alabama at the Tiger Track Classic held at Auburn University.

In the triple jump, J.B. Barnette finished with a distance of 48.45 feet to place fifth overall in the event. In the javelin throw, Jackson Corcoran placed sixth with a distance of 203.2 feet, and Jordan Entwistle placed 8th with a distance of 200.11 feet.
