Pelion made it official in Region 3-2A baseball on Friday, securing the pennant with a 6-2 win at home against Fairfield Central.
The Panthers (13-7, 9-0) spotted the Griffins a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, tied it up with a run in the top of the first and went ahead for good with a three-run burst in the third. Zach Hawkins drove in two runs with a single and later scored on a fielder’s choice.
Hawkins was the star of the game, going 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs and picking up a save with two inning of one-hit, four-strikeout relief for starter Tyler Poole.
Josh Lang and Daniel Hawkins both had two runs scored for the Panthers.
Poole allowed two runs and seven hits in five innings of work. He fanned nine and did not issue a walk.
The young Panthers, who have only three sophomores on the roster, have been hot of late, winning nine its their last 11 outings.
Pelion looks to close out the region campaign with a perfect record on Tuesday at Keenan, and Batesburg-Leesville on Thursday at home in the regular season finale.
