Prep Talk | Carolina Forest softball drops spot in state poll

On the heels of Carolina Forest's weekend loss at Wando, the Panthers softball team dropped a spot in the state rankings, released late Monday night.

Coach Meagen Johnson's team is now No. 2 in Class AAAA. However, the fall from the top spot will be more than forgotten if the Panthers win tonight. Carolina Forest (19-2 overall, 5-1 Region VI-AAAA) will have its first crack at locking up the region title when it plays South Florence at home. With a victory, the Panthers - also ranked No. 19 in the most recent MaxPreps Xcellent 25 national poll - will earn a No. 1 seed for the playoffs.

Securing those home games could be a major step toward another berth in the Class AAAA state finals, where Carolina Forest lost to Hillcrest a season ago.
