Austin Hawley tossed a six-hit complete game and belted a two-run home run to lead Airport to a 6-3 win over Hanahan in the Class 3A state baseball playoffs on Thursday.
The rest of the 3A field gets underway Friday.
The Eagles (21-3) will face either Manning or Myrtle Beach in a District 5 second round game on Monday at home. The winner advances top the district championship round on May 3.
Airport has made it to the Elite Eight phase of the postseason one time since the switch to the current district format in the early 2000s. The Eagles last district championship was in 2005 in their first season at the Class 3A level.
Hawley improved to 8-2 on the season and lowered his ERA to 1.35. The home run was his second of the season, giving him the team lead. The Eagles only have four round-trippers on the books this season.
