Falcons win 3A Upper State opener

A.C. Flora defeated Eastside 6-3 Tuesday in Taylors in the first round of the Class 3A Upper State baseball tournament.
The top-ranked, defending state champion Falcons (22-6) will host the semifinal game on Thursday against the winner of Wednesday’s Greenville-Travelers Rest first-round game.
Alexander Jenkins was the winning pitcher, going five innings, while allowing five hits and three earned runs. Matt Wallace picked up the save, working the final two innings after Jack Hudgens was pulled after facing two Eastside hitters in the sixth.
Jake Lewis and Connor Desmond led the way offensively with two hits apiece. Lewis drove in Flora’s first run in the third with an RBI single to tie the scored at 1-1. He singled and scored ACF’s final run in the seventh on Madison Stokes’ sacrifice fly. Desmond had a run-scoring double in the fourth and an RBI single in the sixth.
The sixth inning was key as Desmond and Austin Beskid delivered run-scoring hits with two out to extend the Falcons lead to 5-2.
