Blythewood is one win away from qualifying for the state championship baseball series for the first time.
The Bengals (25-5) took the commanding position in the Class 4A Upper State tournament on Wednesday in Greenville, completing a 10-0 semifinal win over host Wade Hampton after the game was suspended Tuesday by rain.
It took only five innings to get the job done with the big move being a seven spot in the second featuring a three-run double by pitcher Andrew Beckwith, who hit a double on Tuesday before the rains came.
Beckwith tossed a five-inning, two-hit shutout with six strikeouts and one walk. The Coastal Carolina-bound Beckwith has been outstanding at the plate and on the mound. Offensively, Beckwith is batting .372 with a team-high 25 RBIs. On the hill, the senior right-hander is 8-1 with a 0.94 ERA and 81 whiffs.
Tyler Romanik also had a big game with two hits and four RBIs.
Blythewood will host the Upper State championship round on Friday, weather permitting.
