Soccer: Black Monday for Midlands girls

Blythewood, Lexington and Swansea lost in semifinal matches at various sites. There will be no area teams at championship weekend for the sixth straight season.

It was Black Monday for Midlands girls soccer in the South Carolina state playoffs.

No area teams survived semifinal testing on Monday night, meaning there will be no Midlands representatives at the state championship weekend for the sixth straight season.

The last area squad to make the finals in any classification was Lexington in Class 4A in 2007. The last Midlands team to win a state title was Dreher in Class 3A in 2002.

The bad news on Monday included a 2-1 loss by Blythewood to J.L. Mann in the 4 Upper State title match, a 2-0 loss by Lexington to Wando in the 4A Lower State finale and a 3-0 loss by Swansea top Hilton Head in the 3 Lower State game.
