Woods helps USA prevail again

Hammond rising sophomore Seventh Woods started all five games as the USA national team rolled to its third straight FIBA U16 championship in Uruguay.

Hammond star Seventh Woods was the youngest player on the USA Basketball men’s U16 national team, but the 14-year-old Columbian had key to the helping the team win its third straight FIBA Americas championship.

The USA squad went 5-0 to claim the gold medal again, capping a 5-0 tournament run with a 94-48 rout of Argentina in the championship game on June 15 at Maldoado, Uruguay.

Woods posted 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists in his 18 minutes of play in the finale. The Skyhawks rising sophomore started all five games at the tournament, averaging 5.8 points and 2.4 rebounds. He led the team is assists with 22.
